With the advent of OS X Lion (10.7.x), the Migration Assistant gained the ability to copy user data from PCs running Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7.

Now that you've switched to a Mac as your new computing platform, you may wonder how you're going to move all your stuff from your Windows PC to the Mac. Well, you're in luck; making the move to the Mac doesn't require tossing out all of your Windows data and files. For the most part, all of your Windows user data, including documents, pictures, music, and videos, can make the journey to the Mac without too much trouble.
Your Windows applications, however, will have to stay behind. They depend on a Windows operating system, and won't run directly on a Mac. But don't worry; if there's an application that you just can't live without, or that doesn't have a Mac equivalent, there are ways to run a Windows environment on a Mac. You'll need to either dual-boot your Mac between Windows and OS X, or run third-party virtual machine software, such as:
Parallels Desktop for Mac
VMWare Fusion
Oracle VM VirtualBox
For now, let's focus on moving your user data to your new Mac, so you can get back to work or have a bit of fun.

Using the Apple Retail Store to Transfer Data

There are various options for transferring Windows data, depending on the version of OS X that came with your Mac. The easiest method is to have an Apple retail store move your Windows data for you. If you purchase your Mac at an Apple retail store, and you happen to show up with your PC, store staff will move the data for you, as part of the Mac setup process. Of course, for this method to work, you need to plan ahead. You must have your Windows machine with you when you buy a Mac, and you must be willing to wait. Depending on how busy the store is, the wait could be as little as an hour, or as long as a day or more.
You can speed things up by calling ahead and making an appointment to purchase a Mac. Be sure to mention that you also want to transfer your data from your Windows machine. Apple store staff will set up a time, and give you an estimate of how long the process will take.

Using the Mac's Migration Assistant

If you're not good at planning ahead, or hanging around an Apple retail store doesn't appeal to you, there are a couple of do-it-yourself options for migrating your PC data to your Mac.
OS X includes a Migration Assistant that was originally designed to make it easier to upgrade from one Mac model to another. You connect two Macs using a FireWire cable or a network connection, and then use the Migration Assistant to copy user data, applications, and system settings to the new Mac.
With the advent of OS X Lion (10.7.x), the Migration Assistant gained the ability to copy user data from PCs running Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7. Lion's Migration Assistant can copy your Windows user accounts, although it cannot copy your passwords, so be sure you know your user account password before you make the transfer. Lion's Migration Assistant can also copy your documents, as well as emails, contacts, and calendars from Microsoft Outlook (2003, 2007, 2010), Outlook Express, Windows Mail, and Windows Live Mail.


The OS X Lion Migration Assistant requires that the Mac and the PC be connected to the same local network. You don't need to worry about setting up any type of file sharing on either computer; they just need to be on the same network.
The transfer process involves running a copy of the Migration Assistant on your Mac and a copy on your PC. Since you'll be working with two different computers, and two applications that have the same name, we'll preface each step in this guide to using the Migration Assistant with either PC or Mac, to make it clear which application the instructions refer to.

Installing the Lion Migration Assistant

Your Mac includes the main Migration Assistant application, but you'll also need to install a helper application on your Windows PC. You can download the Windows Migration Assistant from Apple's web site at:

Using the OS X Lion Migration Assistant

PC:
  1. Before proceeding with the migration process, turn off the automatic Windows Update. There's a remote possibility that if the Windows Update starts installing new packages, the Migration Assistant will be interrupted, and won't be able to complete the process.

  2. Once you download it to your PC, launch the Windows Migration Assistant installer and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.

  3. When the installation is complete, the Migration Assistant will auto-start.

  4. When the Migration Assistant launches on your PC, click through the welcome screen, until you're asked to start the Migration Assistant on your Mac.
Mac:
  1. Launch the Migration Assistant, which is located at /Applications/Utilities, or from the Go menu, select Utilities.

  2. The Migration Assistant may ask you to enter the name and password of a user with an administrator account. Click Continue, enter an admin name and password, and click OK.

  3. The Migration Assistant will display options for the source of information to copy to your Mac. Select "From another Mac, PC, Time Machine backup, or other disk," and click Continue.

  4. The Migration Assistant will display additional source options. Select "From another Mac or PC," and click Continue.

  5. In order for the Migration Assistant to continue, it must close any other applications that are running on your Mac. Click Continue to close any open apps and proceed with the migration process.

  6. The Migration Assistant will scan your local network for any PC or Mac that is running the Migration Assistant application. Your PC's icon and name should display in the Migration Assistant window. When it does, click Continue.

  7. The display will now show you a multi-digit passcode. Write this number down, and take it to your PC.
PC:
  1. The Migration Assistant will display a passcode. It should match the one that was shown on your Mac. If the passcode matches, click Continue, and then return to your Mac.
Mac:
  1. The Migration Assistant will display a list of items you can migrate to your Mac. The list will include the PC's currently logged-in user account, and all associated data, such as Music, Pictures, Movies, Desktop items, Downloads, Documents, Contacts, Bookmarks, and User Settings. The Migration Assistant can also copy additional files, such as shared files, logs, and other files and documents it finds on your PC.

  2. Select the items you wish to copy, and click Continue.
PC & Mac:
  1. Both Migration Assistants will display the ongoing progress of the copy operation. Once the copying process is complete, you can quit the Migration Assistant application on both machines.
The Migration Assistant can only copy the user data of the account that is currently logged in on the PC. If there are multiple user accounts that you wish to copy to your Mac, you'll need to log out of your PC, log in with the next account, and then repeat the migration process.

Great progress has been made in hacking PCs to run OS X, and it is now possible to install Mac OS X without a Mac. Thanks to some great tools put together by some brilliant hackers, it is also much easier and does not involve nearly as much time and effort as was once required.

Step 1: Getting The Hardware Ready

I recently purchased the following set of hardware for the purposes of building a Hackintosh (often PCs running Mac OS X are referred to as such):
The motherboard has an 8-pin power connector on it, and although it is possible to connect a single 4-pin connector to it, you may encounter odd issues running with just a single 4-pin connector. To ensure that you provide sufficient power to the board, you should purchase the 4-pin to 8-pin power adapter. Alternatively, you could purchase a power supply with 3x 4-pin connectors (1 for the 20+4-pin main connector, and 2 for the 8-pin connection) or an 8-pin connector.
I did not purchase a hard drive or video card, as I used some I already had from another PC, but you will need those items as well. As of the time this article was written, you can get a 1TB drive shipped for $75 and an NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT video card for $65.
I also purchased v10.6.3 of OS X Snow Leopard retail DVD for a mere $29 (was about $35 with shipping & handling).
All-in-all, the full system (without monitor) will run you around $600 (you could also add a 22″ monitor for $170). You could certainly try doing it even cheaper with different hardware, but you’ll need to figure out the appropriate changes to make in the BIOS and boot loader installation.
I did my best to put together a fairly modern system for a very reasonable price. Having used this set of hardware, I can affirm that it runs OS X Snow Leopard very well. Without a doubt, $600 – $800 is a far cry from what you would spend on an equivalent Mac from Apple. Granted it won’t be as compact or pretty as an iMac, but it will be just as functional.

Step 2: Putting The Hardware Together

If you purchase the hardware I used, along with a hard drive and NVIDIA GeForce video card, you should be able to follow the instructions exactly as I’ve laid them out. If you’ve never built a PC before but are willing to give it a try, you’ll definitely want to check out The Idiot’s Ultimate Guide to Build Your Own PC. It is a step-by-step guide to building your own PC, with plenty of photos to help you out.
You can try following this tutorial with existing hardware you have as well, although you may need to make adjustments when configuring the BIOS and installing the boot loader. The more modern your hardware is, the better the chances are it will work for you. It would be best if you have a 64-bit Intel dual-core (or quad-core) processor, although an older CPU might still work as well. I would recommend NVIDIA GeForce video card, but ATI cards should work too.

Step 3: Prepare The Boot Disk

In addition to the hardware and a retail copy of Mac OS X Snow Leopard, you’ll also need a blank CD. You may want to use a rewritable CD if you’re using a different hardware configuration, just in case the first one I recommend doesn’t work for you. There are two boot disk images that will allow you to install OS X directly from the installation DVD:
I successfully used both of them with my hardware setup. However I recommend you try iBoot first, as it is a bit leaner and doesn’t take as long to boot. If you’re using my hardware configuration, be sure to download the iBoot Supported disk image. If you use Empire EFI, download the Empire EFI v1.085 R2 image.
You can use one of many free programs to burn CDs if you don’t have one. Be sure to use the disk image burning mode in your CD burning software. Do not just simply copy the disk image file to a blank CD. I like InfraRecorder, because it makes this very easy. All you have to do is click the Write Image button, select the image, and burn it. Once again, you may wish to use rewritable media if you’re using a different hardware configuration than mine.

Step 4: Bios Configuration

Fortunately, the Gigabyte GA-H55M-USB3 does not require a lot of configuration to run Mac OS X. When you first turn on or reboot the machine, press the delete key to enter the BIOS setup. You can just load the Optimized Defaults, and just make a few changes within three sections of the bios: Advanced BIOS Features, Integrated Peripherals, and Power Management Setup.
4.1 – First, go to Advanced BIOS Features and set the First Boot Device to CDROM. I have my USB drive as the second drive and then Hard Disk as third – you can configure yours the same way if you wish to ever boot from a USB drive. Just be sure that Hard Disk is the Second Boot Device or Third Boot Device.
4.2 – Next, configure SATA to run in AHCI mode in the Integrated Peripherals menu. You’ll need to set both PCH SATA Control Mode and Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode to AHCI.
4.3 – Finally, go to Power Management Setup and set the HPET Mode to 64-bit mode.

Step 5: Installing Mac OS X

5.1 – Insert the iBoot (or Empire EFI) boot disk.
5.2 – When you see screen below, eject the disk.
5.3 – Insert the Retail Mac OS X Snow Leopard DVD, wait a few seconds, and press F5.
5.4 – When you see the screen below, select Mac OS X Install DVD (it should already be selected) and press Enter.
5.5 – If all goes well, you should eventually see the language selection screen for the installer. If all did not go well and you do not make it to the language selection screen, try downloading a different version of iBoot or Empire EFI.
5.6 – Select your language and click the arrow to proceed.
5.7 – Next, you need to partition your drive. Click on Utilities > Disk Utility.
5.8 – Select your disk drive.
5.9 – Click Partition.
5.10 – Select 1 Partition for the partition scheme. Note: If you have a drive that is larger than 2 TB, do not create partitions larger than 1 TB. Split the drive into multiple partitions, and be sure the main installation partition is 1 TB or smaller.
5.11 – Enter a name for the partition (I used Hackintosh).
5.12Select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as the Format.
5.13 – Click Options…, select GUID Partition Table, and then click OK.
5.14 – Click Apply.
5.15 – Quit Disk Utility and proceed with the installation. Install on the Hackintosh partition.

Step 6: Installing the Boot Loader

Do not fret when you reboot after the installation and get a boot error, as you will need to first boot the machine with iBoot (or Empire EFI). Eject the Mac OS X Snow Leopard install DVD, put your boot CD back into the drive, and reboot the machine. Now when you boot up, you should see a second choice for your installation partition (Hackintosh if you named it that way). Select the Hackintosh partition and press Enter to boot into OS X.
Once you’ve completed the first-run setup, open up Safari and download Multibeast. Multibeast is another superb tool by tonymacx86 and MacMan that makes it stupid easy to install the boot loader, along with all the drivers necessary for your Hackintosh to function properly.
In addition to downloading Multibeast, you will need to download the DSDT for the Gigabyte GA-H55M-USB3 and copy it to the desktop. Be sure to save it as
DSDT.aml
. Launch Multibeast and make the following selections (your choices will differ if you have a different motherboard/hardware configuration):
  • UserDSDT
  • System Utilities
  • Advanced Options > Kexts > Audio > LegacyHDA > ALC889
  • Advanced Options > Kexts > Graphics > NVEnabler
  • Advanced Options > Kexts > Network > RealtekR1000SL
  • Advanced Options > Patched Kernels > 10.3.1 Supported Kernel

After MultiBeast finishes installing, eject the iBoot CD and reboot the system. You should be able to boot right up from the hard drive, and all your devices should work just fine.

Step 7: Getting Started with Your New Mac

So what now? Most certainly you’ll want to check out 5 apps to get more out of your new Mac as well as 15 must-have apps for your Mac. I never managed to get sleep to work. When I try to put the computer to sleep, it sort of goes into a coma. The fans never shut down and the machine doesn’t wake up when you press the power button. This post is a note to self to remember this the next time I encounter a similar problem. Possible causes:
To be honest first thing I checked was to make sure Exchange server is able to talk to all domain controllers as its configured on its TCP/IP properties.Also as always check to see anything catches your attention under application logs. Fair enough I was able to locate the event log “2080” MsExchangeADAccess” was showing me one DC only, however the TCP/IP stack was configured to talk to secondary DC.

Make sure Exchange is able to talk to all DC’s within its “Site”. Above example the second DC was not even discovered by MSExchange AD access, due to replication problems existed among the DC’s in the  site where exchange is residing. After fixing the relocation issues and restarting MSExchangeADTopology service took care of the error.
Note:
Some other people who had same error assumed to fix this issue by deleting the local profile ( corrupted profile) for the user account they logged into Exchange server. So if the above solution does not work, try this:
This error is actually a false error, and is caused by GUI caching, more specifically MMC caching. This occurs when a DC (domain controller) that is either unreachable or has changed in some way is still cached by the MMC applet. To fix this issue by removing the cache and basically resetting the MMC applet do this:
 Delete this file: “c:\users\<specific user>\appdata\roaming\microsoft\mmc\Exchange Management Console

Snow Leopard has arrived and we know how Important is it for you to upgrade. The excitement of the OSx86 has risen to levels where every one needs to run the latest Mac OS X and Snow Leopard is but obvious.
Before you start – You should have an existing OSx86 running. Follow the Guide Here: Install OSx86 Mac on PC to do that.

If you are looking for Installation from USB: Install Snow Leopard on PC using USB, or virtualization: How to Install Snow Leopard on VMWare, Install Snow Leopard on VirtualBox
In the following tutorial we will show you how can you can Install the latest Snow Leopard (build 10A432 GM release, the Retail version) on your PC which has existing MAC OS X 10.x.x running.
Lot’s of sites have been consulted to prepare this guide. This guide might not be perfect yet (no guide is perfect, yet) but i`ll try my best to improve it within few days, meanwhile if you face any issues, leave your comments, I`ll try to solve any issues that you might come across.) UPDATE: Now, you can use a perfect guide that supports installations from Flash Drive too (8GB): Install Snow Leopard on PC using USB.
We need two disks. Why ? – Snow Leopard needs a Leopard Install — One HDD with Leopard already installed and Second hard disk for Snow Leopard.
Before you begin, download the pre-requisites -
  1. Tools –  MediaFire RapidShare
  2. Kexts –  MediaFire RapidShare
  3. Chameleon 2.0 + EFI 10 –  MediaFire RapidShare
  4. Chameleon 1.0 + EFI 10 –  MediaFire RapidShare
  5. Misc. –  MediaFire RapidShare
  6. Mac OS X 10.6 Snow leopard Retail build 10A432 (As ususal, we won’t post links, google it)
Let’s Roll
Step 1. Preparing the New Disk -
Make sure you have connected your second “New” Hard Disk or Flash Drive.
Boot into Leopard, launch Disk Utility from Spotlight. Partition your New disk with GUID partition scheme. Name the partition  e.g. “New”. Now set yourself as the owner by running the following at drive’s Root.
sudo –s
chown 0:0 /Volumes/New
Step2. Installing DMG -
Now, Mount the Snow Leopard DMG File.

Next, Installer window will pop-up, click on the free space anywhere in window and press key sequence - CMD + Shift + G . A small window will appear on top of the existing window. Here, type “Mac OS X Install DVD/System/Installation/Packages/”, and Go.
In the next window, locate the “OSInstall.mpkgand double click this package file to start Snow leopard Installation.
Note- Default “OSInstall.mpkg” works for GUID partitioned drive only. If you need to install on MBR, then google for Modified OSInstall.mpkg for MBR, download modified one and replace with default one.
Step 3. Customizing Install -
Go through the options and select your New drive. De-select all the stuff you don’t need like Printers, Languages, other drivers etc.. and wait for it to finish. It should take 10-20 minutes.
After its done installing, Don’t Reboot!
Now step 4. and onwards, we will install Bootloader and some important drivers (KExts), Patch DSDT and Install certain important system files, so, bear it with me.
Step 4. Installing BootLoader –
Unzip the Chameleon Bootloader, Install the “Chameleon-2-1.0-r431.pkg and then “Chameleon v2 Snow Leopard Support.pkg to the New Drive.
Note - If Snow Support Package Shows an Error, Then Follow Step 5.
IMPORTANT – If Chameleon 2.0  gives you Kernel Panics then try reinstalling with Chameleon 1.0
Step 5. If you are using PCEFI bootloader on your existing OSx86 system then “Chameleon v2 Snow Leopard Support.pkg” will NOT serve the purpose.
In this case, you have two options:
Option 1. Either install the Chameleon-2-1.0-r431.pkg” over your current 10.5.x Installation then reboot and do the process again (from Step 1). or
Option 2. Launch the “ShowAllFiles (included in “Tools”) and click Show. Then Navigate to the root of your  New Drive and delete the “boot” file you see  and replace it with the boot file included System Downloads. After replacing the boot file again launch the “ShowAllFiles and click Hide. Continue to Step 6.
Step 6. Patching  DSDT -
From the downloaded Tools, Open the DSDT Patcher. Select “Darwin/Mac OS X” in Operating System, then select DSDT Patch in options and before hitting the Run DSDT Patcher button make sure to change the destination to “New” Drive.
Step 7. Installing KExts (Drivers)-
this assumes that you had downloaded all Kexts that might be needed for your system’s compatiblity. Place all the “kext files in  ”/New/Extra/Extensions”, and copy the Extensions folder in Extra to the desktop, and drag it to “Kext Utility. “Kext utility” will actually repair your permission and generate a new Extension.mkext. Now, Move the Extensions folder and the extension.mkext back to “/Snow/Extra
Step 8. Configuring boot.plist with EFiStudio -
Launch EFiStudio and look for your Display/Video Card through the drop down menu. Click add device and you will see some  numbers, copy them.

Add the following XML to your com.apple.boot.plist in /New/Extra.
<key>Graphics Mode</key>
<string>1280×1024×32 </string>
<key>device-properties</key>
<string>–number you got with EFiStudio</string>
Save and Exit. Put the SMBios.plist into /New/Extra.

Step 9. If you added any driver kext to /New/System/Library/Extension, This step will rebuild the Extensions.mkext cache while booted in Snow Leopard. Reboot and go to Single User mode by typing the flag -x32 –s
Type the following commands:
/sbin/fsck -fy
/sbin/mnt -uw /
kextcache -v 1 -t -m /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup/Extensions.mkext /System/Library/Extensions/
Now Reboot and Fall in Love with the Snow Leopard -


UPDATE 1.

Basic Troubleshooting Guide
As promised, I added this section to give out better troubleshooting in case of any issues you might have come across.
For those who are getting Kernel Panics try to boot in 32 bit Mode + Safe mode using following Boot flag.
-x32 –v –x -f
Kernel Panic (IOATAFamily.kext) – Go to your New HDD , navigate it through /System/Library/Extensions and delete IOATAFamily.kext or simply replace IOATAFamily.kext with a patched kext from your Leopard installation or from netkas. If that fails , simply delete this kext. You’ll lose ATA support , however it would still install on your SATA drives. Just make sure its set to AHCI instead of IDE
Generic Kernel Panic on CPU – This problem is related with Chameleon V2. Its recommended for you to use PC_EFI v9 with a patched boot file.
Kernel Panic (generic CPU error) - It occurs if you have an Atom processor or some of the very old boards. The only way to fix it by using PC_EFI v9. Its kind of simple to do , all you have to do is download this installer and boot file for Snow Leopard. Its bit old school. To do this firstly , you’ll have to download PC_EFI v9 installer and this boot file from it. Install this boot loader to your USB Drive (be sure to change its destination) and replace the boot file with this patched file. Be sure to follow rest of the guide such as generating extensions.mkext and so on and so forth. Its just that instead of Chameleon , you’ll have to use PC_EFI v9.
Another thing which I’ve noticed that it occurs when you do a -f. I think its related to permissions of the kext. Do refer to the guide up on how to generate extensions.mkext for both /Extra and /System/Library/Extensions and how to fix permissions
Reboot loop – It clearly means your processor is not supported for instance if you’re like me , still on a Pentium D. For this you’ll have to grab a patched mach_kernel.
CMOS Bug – If you get an error on BIOS after you’ve installed Snow Leopard (this includes BIOS settings have changed or other strange BIOS errors) This is a known issue and it requires your DSDT to be patched. Again you can check out the guide below which I’ve included on how to fix it
Fix Permission Error in Disk Utility. This is caused when Snow Leopard is installed from Leopard.
[/caption] Disk Utility Permission fix error – If you get this error in Disk Utility , “ No Installer packages can be found for this disk” whenever you want to verify permission and fix permission. This is caused when you run Snow Leopard installer within Leopard itself. Its a simple fix. You’ll have to re-run BSD.pkg , it could be found in /Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD/System/Installation/Packages or /Volumes/OSX86/System/Installation/Packages . Just run it and voila it should be fixed ! Now you can use Disk Utility to repair permissions !
UPDATE 2. More Troubleshooting Tips
  1. If  you are stuck on Waiting for DSMOS then simply delete the DSMOS kext in Snow/Extra/Extensions but make sure you must have FakeSMC kext.
  2. If you are stuck on RTL8169E error: Disable Hardware LAN in your BIOS and boot again. I’m making a list of it, so stick with us.
  3. If you have an IDE drive or your laptop contains IDE drive then Install AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext by Netkas to make your ATA/IDE work in Snow Leopard. This kext is useful for ICH6/7/8/9/10 with ahci disabled and for lappies too. This kext also helps IOATAFamily related error causing Kernel Panic.
UPDATE 3: Replacing MACH_KERNEL (for Pentium D, Celeron, P4)
Replacing mach_kernel with a patched mach_kernel (required for Intel Pentium D/Celeron D/Pentium 4 with SSE3 or AMD processors with SSE3)
By default , vanilla kernel will not work on these processors , its because its not based on Intel Core micro-architecture series. Thus resulting a reboot. To fix this modbin has bin-patched (aka binary patched) the Vanilla kernel , so that it doesn’t perform any checks on CPU type. So it would boot on all CPUs regardless if its AMD or Intel. Keep in mind that. You may grab the patched kernel from here (for Intel Pentium D/Pentium 4 with SSE3/Celeron D with SSE3) and if you’re using AMD kernel , grab test7 by modbin
For SSE2 support , you’ll have to wait till Apple releases the source code to kernel and wait for someone to patch it and make it available for SSE2 users. This goes the same for AMD users and Intel Pentium 4/D users with 64-bit support , as it has to be patched to enable 64-bit support on these processors. For AMD users , there is a special guide , alternatively do scroll below and read. You’ll have to patch binaries (CPUID fix). However , even if there is SSE2 support for Snow Leopard’s patched kernel , its going to be very slow on your pentium 4/M with SSE2. Its highly not recommended to upgrade if you’re still on a Pentium 4/M , not to mention that Apple has dropped legacy support from Tiger and leopard , that may not allow older Pentium M (laptops) and Pentium 4 (Desktops) to work  !
UPDATE 4. Install on AMD (64×2, others)
The base procedure remains the same, all you have to do instead is use Chameleon rc 2.640 pkg. and PCEFI V10, DSDT patch, Some kexts and Modbin Kernel.

Cop sepetinin normal kullanim usulu elbette tamamini bosaltmaktir. Tek tek dosya silmek icin su yontemi deneyebilirsini z:

- Terminal'i acin.
- Terminal'de rm komutunu yazip yaninda bir bosluk (space) birakin
- Cop sepetindeki silmek istediginiz dosyayi Terminal penceresine surukleyin
- Terminal penceresinde "rm /Dizin/Trash/silmekistedigimdosya.doc" benzeri sekilde gorunecek. Enter'a basin ve dosya silinecektir.

Tabi bunu yapmak icin dosyanin cop sepetinde olmasina da gerek yok o ayri konu :-)

Gigabit, megabit, megabyte, kbps gibi ifadeler nedir?

Dijital (sayısal) ortamda büyüklük ve hız belirtmek için kullanılan bu ifadeler sık sık karışır. Karşılaştığınız terimi okumak için basit parçalara bölüp, kavramları sonunda tekrar birleştireceğiz.
İlk başta karıştırılan şey bit ve Byte'ın farkı. Bir Byte, genellikle(*) ve pratikte sizin göreceğiniz hemen her yerde 8 bitten oluşur. Aşağıdaki resimde küçük mavi kutular birer bit. Bunları yanyana koyup birleştirince kırmızıyla gösterdiğimiz Byte'ı elde ediyorsunuz.
Gigabit, megabit, megabyte, kbps gibi ifadeler nedir?  8 bit
Kısaltmalarda ise iki tür gelenek vardır. Bazıları Byte için "B", bit içinse "b" kullanır. Diğerleri ise yine byte için "B" kullanırken, biti kısaltmadan yazmayı yeğler.
